Ceasing an EHCP

£2.00£0.50

An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) is a legal document that outlines the special educational needs of a child or young person and the provisions required to meet those needs. An EHCP can be ceased if the local authority believes, based on evidence and reports at the annual review meeting, that the individual no longer requires special educational provision. The decision to cease an EHCP can only be made at this review, where the child or young person's progress is thoroughly evaluated. If parents or carers disagree with the decision to cease the EHCP, they have the right to appeal within 2 months. After ceasing an EHCP, the local authority must continue to review the decision at least every 6 months in case the needs of the child or young person change over time and the EHCP needs to be reinstated. Throughout the process, open communication between families and the local authority is essential.
